The Children's Choir is comprised of a group of children currently ranging from 5-15 years of age. The children meet once per week on Tuesday afternoons at 4:30 P.M. during the school year for about 45 minutes. During the summer months they occasionally meet on Tuesday mornings.
Choir members are taught a variety of musical concepts pertaining to the 6 basic elements of music--rhythm, melody, harmony, form, tone color and expression. Through the use of visual aids, songbooks, recordings, and rhythm instruments, children are encouraged to actively participate in various ways. Members are learning to apply their acquired knowledge and skills to analyze written music. They also are given opportunities to listen to and evaluate recordings of period literature. In addition, the children are instructed in the proper use of vocal techniques and harmony in singing.
Of course, the ultimate goal of the choir is to serve as a part of the music ministry of the church. The children sing during Sunday morning services about 4-6 times per year.
The philosophy and purpose of the Children's Choir is to develop in the children an awareness and understanding of the Biblical perspective of God's intended order in music. The musical selections are more traditional in style and are appropriately suited to the conservative music standard of UCRBC. In so doing, it is the desire of this ministry to provide the children and teens with a godly musical foundation for life.
